Loch Powers was the hottest guy I’d ever seen in my entire life.

And I hated him with every fiber of my being.

I'd practically known him since birth. Heck, we’d literally shared a crib as babies at his mom’s daycare.

Then I’d crushed on him hard when we hit middle school but he wouldn’t give geeky, glasses-wearing me the time of day. When his mom made him take me to the sixth grade dance, he’d humiliated me and I vowed to never talk to him again.

The next year when my family moved away, I told myself that if I never saw him again it’d be too soon.

Now I’m back and attending the same college, but I’m no longer the skinny, ugly girl who was so infatuated with him. And I’m so over him it’s not even funny.

But now that I’m no longer the ugly duckling, he’s set his sights on me, and I’m just not sure what to do with that.

Getting Lucky

Maggie Adams

Sept 30th

Lawrence “Lucky” Coalson is on the track of the arsonist that torched his older brother’s construction company. The clues have led him to the Mississippi Flame Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Taking a job as a bouncer there, he hopes to find a connection or even the arsonist. What he finds is a blonde bombshell in a bit of trouble, so like the alpha male he is, Lucky comes to the rescue.

But what happens in Vegas is about to follow him home – and no one is prepared for the consequences.

“You do have a certain charm, cowboy,” Claudia murmured as she leaned back in his arms.
He kissed her, quick and hard, on the lips. “I’m just clearing the way for a fun filled evening, baby.”
He started around the bar, but she grabbed the back of his shirt. “What makes you think I don’t have plans?”
Lucky turned in a flash, grabbed her around the waist and slid his hand under her skirt to rub her through her panties. “I know you’ve got plans, sugar. I can feel what you’ve got in mind. It’s warm and moist.” He slipped his finger around the silken barrier to slide against her wetness. She moaned when his finger left her. He brought it to his lips. “And it tastes so sweet.”
Claudia came to her senses as Lucky stepped back. She swung an arm to slap him, but he grabbed it and pulled her close once again. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she hissed. Even though she was pissed, her body throbbed against him.
“I’m just keeping it real baby.  If we give them a show every now and then, the word will spread, and pretty soon, we’ve got a casino full of gambling voyeurs,” he murmured against her skin as he nibbled on her neck. “Now, I’ve got to go put out more fires.” He kissed her again, amid cheers and bar pounding, and then hopped over the bar with a grin and a bow. “Oh, and lose the panties, darlin’.”
Claudia shook her head and grinned. He definitely wasn’t boring her.

Hi! I'm Maggie Adams. I live near St. Louis, MO, with my high school sweetheart, Ned, and my wonderful kids, Katie (Kyle) and Ross (Valerie). My life is like a walking, talking sitcom from I Love Lucy, but I love it, although people do tend to keep their distance from me!
Writing has always been my dream, with reading my favorite hobby. When I’m not writing, I can be found singing, dancing, and cooking, often all at the same time. I try to include a little bit of my life in everything I write, so when you read my books, keep your eyes wide open - I'm in there somewhere! Happy reading!

BOOK REVIEW - The Air He Breathes by Brittainy C Cherry

SYNOPSIS

I was warned about Tristan Cole.

“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.

But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

MY REVIEW

"Each day was one breath at a time. I couldn't think much further than that, otherwise I'd choke on air."

Sometimes we read books, no scratch that, sometimes we run upon an author that has such talent that you don't read their books, you live them - you breath them. In a way, I feel exactly like the quote above - when thinking of the beautiful story, I have to mentally prepare myself or I too will choke on air. Seems silly eh? That a book can hit you so close to your heart that you feel like it's inside you living. Like it's strumming your heartstrings and making you breathe in every single word and every single syllable. Living it like it's your story and while all the while you're thanking God that it's not your story because you are not so sure you could handle it. Yes, that may sound like such a silly notion to some but believe me - once you read this book you will completetly understand my ramblings because sometimes a book really is THAT good. So good that any thing you write about it seems like a moot point because everything you write will cower in comparison - because there really are no words to describe how excellent the book was and that is exactly how this book was for me.

"One breath, one step."

Elizabeth is living the unthinkable. As a single mother, she's trying everything she can to go through the motions of living a normal life. She raises her daughter will pride and does a damn good job of that. She has wonderful friends (which make some of the best side characters) that a girl can have - but it's all a facade, nobody knows how much she silently dies every night....

The hardest thing about losing someone you love is the fact that you also lose yourself."

Tristan Cole the town asshole lives to himself. He doesn't need friends and makes no apologies for that. Isolated in his house with an ugly yard and an empty soul, Tristan is begging for help and doesn't even realize it. He's invisible in a town full of rumors and busy bodies. That is until Elizabeth sees him. Truly sees him.

"Whenever he walked past me, my cheeks flushed and I'd turn away as if I hadn't seen him. Even though I had. I always saw him."

That's seriously as far as I'll go into the story with you to avoid spoilers of any sort (trust me, there's lots to spoil).

I highly suggest everyone reading this book. It has a little of everything in it. Little bit of humor, little bit of sweet, lotta bit of angst, and you can truly expect it to pull on your heartstrings, Brittainy did an absolute incredible job with this story. I'm not sure the book or the characters could be any more perfect. MUST READ!!!!

Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote this sweet little poem, that even if you’re not familiar with poetry you can more than likely recite.

“Tis Better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.”

You want to know something?

I hate this poem. Every time I see or hear it I have to choke back the bile that threatens to escape. It’s collection of strategically placed words are complete and utter bullshit which people cling to in order to help them deal with the aftermath of a shitty relationship. What this poem fails to explain is that in the process of you loving the wrong person, you can subject yourself to a lifetime of constant pain and misery. It neglects to advise that when you decide to let this love go, you are left with a plethora of jagged broken pieces that you must somehow find a way to piece back together; you have to become a seamstress and learn how to stitch your own heart until its whole again. You are left trying to figure out the why’s and how’s and what could have-been. Until finally one day that fragile limb you’ve been standing on breaks … causing you to fall into the unknown not knowing where to turn. The only thing you know is that you are alone.  Your thoughts of hopelessness and pain are the only company you keep, and no one, not even the one’s closest to you could possibly understand. Why, because they have chosen not to travel down the uncertain path of love. As for me, well my case was special, I loved an asshole so much that somewhere I unwillingly lost myself. I loved so hard that I was blinded by his untruths, none of this love I gave was reciprocated, and I paid the major price after I chose to disembark from his endless circle of disappointment. The price I paid was not in any monetary value, but my debt was settled by a journey I never wanted or asked to be a part of.  This is my journey back from the dark unforgiving tunnel we call grief; these are the 5 Stages of Riley Winters.
